Montana's Affordable Housing Inventory

Funded by Public Funds and Private Investment using the Federal Housing Programs administered by the Housing Division and the Community Development Division

This document lists the housing and community development that has been achieved with public/private partnerships across the state of Montana. Housing is presented by county and by each of Montana’s seven Tribal Reservations.

The Montana Department of Commerce is proud of our work as administrators of the Federal Housing Programs that serve Montana. We see how valuable it is to each individual family and to the communities that need housing for the seniors, the working families, the individuals with disabilities and those individuals whose incomes are at the bottom half of the scale. Communities are better able to build strong, stable economies when there is sufficient housing that is affordable for those who seek it.

The White Paper

Housing in Montana

The first Housing White Paper was developed, printed and distributed in 2008 by the Housing Coordinating Team.  The effort was an attempt to define the problems facing the builders, developers, suppliers, and planners of affordable housing. The hope was that by collaborating on a definition of the problems there would follow a broader understanding and a collective set of solutions.
