HELENA, Mont. – With the passage of House Bill 3, communities waiting for funding will now be able to move forward with essential projects in areas impacted by coal development.

“Thanks to action by the governor and Legislature, 11 Montana communities impacted by coal can now move forward on crucial community development projects,” said Coal Board Chairman John Williams. “This funding is good for our towns and helps to create good-paying jobs that our communities need. We appreciate the Legislature and governor’s support.”

House Bill 3 provides the authority for the Coal Board to send $1.9 million to seven communities that will help repair roads so mine workers can get to work safely, purchase fire equipment to ensure basic emergency assistance, and help local hospitals meet their community healthcare needs.
