Multifamily Program receives 2006 Governor's Award

The Multifamily Program team (pictured, back row): Mary Bair, Justin Schedel, and Penny Cope; (seated): Program Manager Mat Rude, Gerry Watne; assists sponsors and developers in the production of affordable housing for Montana residents.

The Multifamily team was nominated for the award by MBOH Executive Director Bruce Brensdal. Bruce said, "The Multifamily Team has developed a workshop inviting all partners who utilize the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program to assist in the development of the rules in the Qualified Allocation Plan. These partners have worked with staff to develop the program so it meets the rental needs of struggling lower income Montanans." Bruce added, "The positive relationship building and the many accolades to Multifamily staff from these partners is a tribute to their hard work and progressive thinking."

"We're very proud of the Multifamily Program team," said Department of Commerce Director Tony Preite. "State employees like the Multifamily Program team recognize that affordable housing pays multiple dividends for Montana families in the form of safer communities and job retention."

The Multifamily Program team also administers Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) loans, which assist low-income Montana households in paying for closing costs or down payment assistance for their first homes, as well as the Reverse Annuity Mortgage Program (RAM), which helps elderly Montana homeowners access some of the equity in their homes.
