Montana HOME Program

Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO)

A CHDO is a private nonprofit organization certified by the HOME program to perform housing-related activities involving ownership, sponsorship and development. Each CHDO must demonstrate staff capacity and development in order to retain CHDO status annually. A CHDO may not subcontract all program-related duties on a continual basis. A CHDO may have a multi-county service area; however, it may not cover the entire State of Montana. Organizations applying to become a CHDO in the State of Montana must meet HUD requirements as outlined in the CHDO application.

CHDO Workshops
Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC), at the request of the Montana Department of Commerce (MDOC) HOME Program, developed a 1 & 1/2-day workshop focused on the needs of Community Housing Development Organizations  in Montana. The workshop was offered in Missoula on September 28-29, 2009 and in Billings on October 1-2, 2009.

The workshop was geared toward CHDOs operating in Montana and those organizations intending to seek CHDO status with the state. The HOME program very strongly recommended that current MDOC-certified CHDOs send at least one person to attend the workshop.
